Your credit score could change even if nothing changes on your credit report. For decades, FICO has essentially ruled mortgage credit scoring. VantageScore has been around for years, but when it came to conventional mortgage lending, it largely wasn’t the score that mattered. That’s changing. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac now allow approved lenders to use VantageScore 4.0 for eligible loans. That means the same credit information could potentially produce a different score depending on which scoring model is being used. In this video, I explain what’s changing, why FICO and VantageScore can produce different results, and why this could matter for homebuyers sitting near an important qualification or pricing threshold.
